A Community Outreach and Public Education Program in the
U.S. District Court for the District of Utah

The U.S. District Court for the District of Utah offers a variety of community outreach programs to increase public awareness about the role and function of the federal courts and to meet and hear from the court’s judges, officers, and staff. These programs are available on request and free of charge to all persons in the community that the Court serves throughout the state of Utah. The programs include the opportunity to tour the courthouse, observe court processes, participate in lessons on the Court, and meet with the judges, officers, and staff of the offices that comprise the Court family. For example:

      Briefings on the role and function of the Court's offices:

          District Judges Offices
          Bankruptcy Judges Offices
          Magistrate Judges Offices
          Office of the Clerk of the U.S. District Court
          U.S. Marshal's Office
          U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services Office
          United States Attorney's Office
          Office of the Clerk of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court

      Civics lessons tailored for groups such as Boy Scouts; Girl Scouts; elementary/junior high/middle/highschool groups; senior citizen groups; minority groups; on topics such as the U.S. Courts, the District of Utah, the U.S. Constitution, jury duty, the interaction of the branches of government in our courts.

      Mock trials for students.

      Opportunities to observe and follow up with questions and answers about the court proceedings.

NOTE: All class tours, mock trials, and lessons at the Courthouse are scheduled by appointment only.
