NOTICE TO ALL COUNSEL IN CRIMINAL CASES

U.S. District Court, District of Utah

Office of the Clerk of Court

ELECTRONIC FILING IS MANDATORY EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 1, 2005 IN CRIMINAL CASES

As of November 1, 2005, all criminal case filings as defined in the Court's CM/ECF Administrative Procedures must be filed electronically. The Administrative Procedures are accessible at www.utd.uscourts.gov. This mandatory electronic filing date applies to all attorneys who represent litigants in criminal matters filed with this Court.

To file electronically, you must register as an electronic filer with the Court and receive a Court-issued login and password. Before you can register as an electronic filer, you must meet one of the following requirements:

  1. Complete the electronic filing training offered by the Court;
  2. Complete the electronic filing training offered by a trainer in your firm;
  3. Complete the computer-based training modules on the Court's website; or
  4. Complete training offered by another CM/ECF court and have an ECF account with that court(this includes the Utah Bankruptcy Court).

The Court has scheduled two-hour training sessions for attorneys and staff. Utah Bar CLE Credit is given for attendance at these sessions. Sessions are currently scheduled every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday through December 29, 2005. Special training sessions for attorneys practicing in criminal litigation are available with open seats on September 29 and October 4, 2005. Attorneys should contact Krysta to register at 801-524-6146 or krysta_arner@utd.uscourts.gov.

To register for a login and ID, you should complete, sign, and mail to the Court the Electronic Case Filing Registration Form available at www.utd.uscourts.gov. Faxed or emailed forms are not acceptable. Signing the form commits you to accept service electronically in lieu of paper service from the Court and from opposing counsel in any case in which you are the attorney of record.
