The Americans with Disabilities Act does not apply to the federal judiciary. However, pursuant to United States Judicial Conference policy, the United States District Court for the District of Utah provides reasonable accommodations to persons with disabilities, including communication disabilities.
“Each federal court is required to provide, at judiciary expense, sign language interpreters or other appropriate auxiliary aids and services to participants in federal court proceedings who are deaf, hearing-impaired, or have other communications disabilities.”
Individuals participating in federal court proceedings who require the assistance of a qualified sign language interpreter, assistive listening technology, access to CART (Communications Access Real-time Translation), or other similar auxiliary aides and services must submit requests for services 14 days in advance of the court proceeding involved.
To submit a request, please fill out the Request for Accommodations form below and submit it via email to the Court’s Access Coordinator, Daryll Butler, at FEPO_Reasonable_Accommodations@ao.uscourts.gov. The form can also be printed and mailed to the mailing address listed on the form.
