2024 Local Rules of Practice Update

Key Updates:

  1. 2024 Local Rule Amendments: The adoption of the 2024 Local Rule Amendments under General Order 23-003 has led to significant updates in the practice of criminal law. As part of these changes, several rules have been renumbered and updated to reflect new procedures or eliminate outdated cross-references. Some rules have been renumbered, eliminated, or suspended (in whole or part) to align with the updated amendments and the Pilot Program. Carefully review the Criminal Local Rules to find the rules that have been eliminated or suspended.

  2. Pilot Program for Unsealing Project: The Court is now implementing Phase II of its unsealing project, which aims to improve electronic access to criminal case filings. The unsealing initiative, which is part of the Pilot Program under General Order 24-004, ensures greater transparency and electronic access for relevant parties involved in criminal cases.

Read General Order 24-004 Before Filing Documents in Criminal Cases:

Due to the significant changes resulting from the Pilot Program, carefully review General Order 24-004, the current Presumptive Access Level List, and the Criminal Local Rules before preparing and filing documents in criminal case.

Effective Date:

The 2024 Local Rule Amendments and the Pilot Program take effect on December 1, 2024. Ensure that all filings made after this date comply with the revised rules.
